Depict: Initial Planning

My Initial Ideas

For this particular part of the planning stage I had 3 very different ideas for what I could do. My first idea was a classic-style, dark Film Noir about a detective attempting to solve a murder. The piece would employ standard Film Noir clichés such as being presented in black and white with a washed-out colour palette. There would also be cliché shots such as a shot of the detective from behind blind-style windows with the shadow across their face.

My second idea was a semi-documentary informing and entertaining the audience on the topic of Wicca, a religion. The sequence would begin with a dictionary definition in white, serif writing on a black background and would show a number of different shots of Wicca paraphernalia such as poppets and different ritual set ups - all fake, used for effect, with a narration over the top explaining about it.

My third, and final, idea was a mockumentary about chavs filmed in the local area - Great Yarmouth. The chavs used in the sequence would be actors with put-on voices in comical situations. An example of this would be a chav telling the camera how 'hard' he is with a close up on his face then after he has told the camera how strong and powerful he is in the neighbourhood the camera zooms out to show the chav on a swing and his chav friend behind him pushing him on the swings. Making it very serious until the final comical reveal.

Group Idea

As a group we shared our ideas with one another to create an original idea made up of all of our best ideas. We all had different ideas of what to include in the sequence. We ended up with a Film Noir style film with very dark, horror themes. We then went on to create the storyline and shot list so that we can move on to the storyboards.
